LOS ANGELES (Junen 6, 2014) — Get ready for some serious toe-tapping! The legendary Preservation Hall Jazz Band and “Best Live Band in LA” The Dustbowl Revival (LA Weekly Best of 2013) team up to open the Zev Yaroslavsky Signature Series at the Ford Amphitheatre on July 5 at 8 p.m.

Hot off their gig in Coachella and in the midst of a worldwide tour, Preservation Hall Jazz Band will be making a stop at the Ford to kick off this year’s Signature Series. Known for playing traditional New Orleans jazz, the band brings a fresh take to this timeless sound with original music from their latest album, THAT’S IT! Taking its name from Preservation Hall, the venerable music venue located in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter, the band travels the world, sharing what they call “the planet’s happiest music.”

Opening for PHJB is The Dustbowl Revival, a Venice, California-based collective that merges old school bluegrass, gospel, jug-band, swamp blues and the hot swing of the 1930s to form a spicy roots cocktail. Known for their inspired live sets, The Dustbowl Revival boldly brings together many styles of traditional American music. Imagine Old Crow Medicine Show meeting Louis Armstrong’s Hot Seven Band in New Orleans or Bob Dylan and Fats Waller jamming with Mumford & Sons on a front porch in 1938. Growing steadily from a small string band playing hundreds of shows up and down the West Coast, DBR has blossomed into a traveling collective featuring instrumentation including fiddle, mandolin, trombone, clarinet, trumpet, banjo, accordion, tuba, pedal steel, drums, guitars, a bass made from a canoe oar, harmonica and plenty of washboard and kazoo for good luck. In its 2013 Best of LA issue, the LA Weekly called DBR the “Best Live Band in LA.”

This summer marks the Zev Yaroslavsky Signature Series’ second season celebrating Los Angeles as a destination for world-class artists, who find here both collaboration with, and inspiration from, celebrated local artists. The series is presented by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission with support provided by Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, and all proceeds benefit the Ford Theatre Foundation.

At 1,200 seats, the Ford Amphitheatre creates an intimate concert experience that is a favorite among Angelenos. Each summer, the Ford hosts a diverse roster of events representing music and dance styles reflective of the communities that comprise Los Angeles County. A County regional park operated by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, the Ford summer season events are presented in partnership with Los Angeles County based arts organizations and producers. Unlike a traditional presenting model, these organizations apply to be part of the season and receive significant marketing, box office and house management support while keeping the majority of box office proceeds. The historic venue was built in 1920 and is in the Hollywood Hills just off the 101 Hollywood Freeway.

The Ford Theatres are located at 2580 Cahuenga Blvd. East, Hollywood, CA 90068, just off the 101 Hollywood Freeway, between Hollywood Blvd. and Barham Blvd. in the Cahuenga Pass. On site, stacked parking costs $5 per vehicle. FREE nonstacked parking serviced by a FREE shuttle to the Ford is available at the Universal City/Studio City Metro Station lot at Lankershim Blvd. and Campo de Cahuenga. The shuttle, which cycles every 15-20 minutes, stops in the “kiss and ride” area. The grounds open two hours before showtime for picnicking. The Ford offers a number of dining options: a variety of food and beverages is available on site and box dinners for evening events may be ordered in advance. Patrons are welcome to bring their own food and drink. The Ford is disabled accessible. Portable wireless listening devices are available upon request

Preservation Hall Jazz Band and The Dustbowl Revival will perform on Saturday, July 5 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $80, $65 and $50 (reserved seating), with a VIP package available for $100 that includes premium seating, a choice of wine or beer, and on site parking.
