Matt Magnusson Joins 'Breaking Through' Cast

PASADENA, CA (October 19, 2015) – Matt Magnusson joins the company of BREAKING THROUGH, opposite Alison Luff at The Pasadena Playhouse (Artistic Director Sheldon Epps). Matt Magnusson’s credits include last season’s Ovation Award winning production of Floyd Collinsat La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, American Idiot at The Vortex Theatre, and the films “American Girl” and “Lost Angels.” BREAKING THROUGH, a world premiere musical, features a book by Kirsten Guenther, and music and lyrics by Cliff Downs and Katie Kahanovitz. The production is choreographed by Tyce Diorio and directed by Sheldon Epps. Matt Magnusson replaces Constantine Maroulis in the role of “Scorpio.“ Maroulis has left the company due to personal matters.  Preview performances begin October 27, 2015 with the official press opening on November 1, 2015 at The Pasadena Playhouse (39 S. El Molino Avenue in Pasadena). 

Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director of The Pasadena Playhouse, says, "I am so happy that Matt will be joining our cast and enhancing our wonderful company of actors.  Along with several others involved in the production, I have had the pleasure of working with him before and we are all pleased to have him with us for this world premiere musical.  I know that his very special talents will be an exciting and inspiring addition to a production which is already giving me great pride and causing anticipation."

The company also includes Kacee Clanton, Robert W. Arbogast, Will Collyer, Teya Patt, Katherine Tokarz, and Nita Whitaker. The ensemble features Fatima El-Bashir, Jessica Jaunich, Reed Kelly, Christopher Marcos, Dominic Pierson, Andrew Pirozzi, Terrance Spencer, Laura L. Thomas and Samantha Zack.

The creative team for BREAKING THROUGH includes John Iacovelli (Set Designer), Alex Jaeger (Costume Designer), Jared Sayeg (Lighting Designer), Peter Fitzgerald (Sound Designer), and Kaitlyn Pietras (Projection Designer).

BREAKING THROUGH is the story of a young, talented singer-songwriter, who embarks on a journey through the shark-filled waters of the music business. She finds fame and fortune, but not satisfaction - and she must fight to find her way back to her authentic self.  In the process she rediscovers the music that truly makes her alive.
