Issa Rae
Insecure, the comedy pilot written by and
starring Issa Rae, has been picked up by HBO.
The show, co-created
and written by Rae and Larry Wilmore, follows the friendship of two modern-day
black women, Issa (Rae) and Molly (Yvonne Orji) and all of their uncomfortable
experiences and racy tribulations.
Prentice Penny
(Brooklyn Nine-Nine) will executive produce the series with 3
Arts’ Michael Rotenberg, Dave Becky and Jonathan Berry, while Rae is
co-executive producer and Wilmore will serve as a consultant.
Lisa Joyce,
who recently landed the lead in HBO’s Lena Dunham pilot, will co-star, as will
Jay Ellis
Rae, known for
her hilarious and successful webseries, The Misadventures Of Awkward Black
Girl, will tackle the same kind of issues in Insecure.
