'Captain America: Civil War' Is Good Vs. Good

By Darlene Donloe

The concept behind any superhero movie is Good vs. Evil.

But what happens when it’s Good vs. Good?

Audiences will find out when it all comes out in the wash in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, set to hit the big screen May 6.

The action-packed, full-throttle, superhero juggernaut is nothing short of pure fun!

It simply doesn’t get any better than this!!!

Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle

Almost all of the Avengers are there.  This time around, due to some political pressure, the superheroes are at odds.

It’s Ironman (Robert Downey Jr.) vs. Captain America (Chris Evans).  Everyone else has to pick a side.

Here is the deal.  Ever since the Avengers have been saving the world, they have been, inadvertently, killing innocent people and leaving chaos and destruction in its wake.  The government is none to happy about that.

After another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team.

Wait! What? Say it isn’t so!

That directive puts the Avengers at odds. Captain America/Steve Rogers’ camp doesn’t like the idea. Ironman/Tony Stark’s camp is willing to give the idea a chance. Rogers (Chris Evans), who disagrees with the proposed government oversight, wants to remain free to defend humanity without being governed. Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is convinced the new changes might just work. Things get ugly quick, leaving Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) to pick sides.

The result is monumental. It’s something that’s never been seen before. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice notwithstanding, Captain America: Civil War is a bunch of superheroes fighting a bunch of superheroes. What? The result is epic and hilarious. The fight at the airport is butt-gusting funny, awesome, and, of course, violent.  As classic and heroic fights go - it's the best!

Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther

Tom Holland as Spiderman

The additions of Black Panther, played superbly by Chadwick Boseman and Tom Holland, who plays a funny-as-hell Spiderman – is brilliant!!!!!  Boseman brings a scary, complex classiness to the proceedings, while Holland brings the funny.

The computer-generated special effects are bigger and better than ever.

Directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo have supercharged the genre.   The result is a big movie, that’s big fun and is sure to bring in BIG numbers.

Captain America: Civil War is a SUPER!!! The world and the franchise remain in good hands.

Captain America: Civil War, directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, Chadwick Boseman, Tom Holland, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan and Paul Bettany.

Rating: PG-13 (for extended sequences of violence, action and mayhem) Running time: 2 hr. 26 min.

On the DONLOE SCALE: D (don’t bother), O (oh, no), N (needs work), L (likeable), O (oh, yeah) and E (excellent), Captain America: Civil War gets an E (excellent).
