On the first day of KRBY Christmas, KRBY will give to you, one shiny new recording of “Silver Bells.” Premiering as a YouTube exclusive, the spirited electronic instrumental opens The 12 Days of KRBY Christmas, a song-a-day promotional event culminating with the release of two more new tracks – “What Christmas Means To Me” and “Merry Christmas Baby.” All three new recordings appear on an enhanced “KRBY’s Christmas Special,” KRBY’s 2017 jolly collection of holiday classics colorfully decorated by the producer-drummer-vocalist. Aside from the tinseled instrumental that opens the Christmas countdown running November 27 through the December 7 album release date, the track-a-day reveal on KRBY’s website (https://www.krby.me), Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/krbymusic) and Facebook(https://www.facebook.com/krbymusic) pages consists of vocal reinventions of seasonal evergreens illumined by ten different vocalists.
The genesis of the collection began three years ago when KRBY was still living in her native Chicago. Out of work due to what she describes as “extreme stress sprains” of both wrists, KRBY decided to record her mother’s favorite Christmas song since she didn’t have money to buy her a gift. She ended up recording five songs, which were shared with her family and friends. After relocating to Los Angeles, the project took on a new life.
“I gifted the music to some of the musicians I had been working with in LA and that got me inspired to pick up where I left off and make it into a full album. However, due to time constraints, I had to leave three songs in the can. These songs will finally be revealed during The 12 Days of KRBY Christmas and added to ‘KRBY’s Christmas Special.’ Holiday classics were long overdue for a good facelift. People cover them all the time, but they just re-invent the wheel year after year. No one has ever really modernized them musically," said KRBY, a creative, hockey-playing lesbian who also produces other artists and serves as an audio engineer.
“KRBY’s Christmas Special” received over 20,000 Spotify streams when it was quietly released last year amongst the artist’s musical collective, vocal collaborators, family, and friends. KRBY is eager for a broader audience to enjoy the festive session when it drops on Spotify, YouTube, iTunes, Amazon, and other digital outlets.
KRBY signed with the Rehegoo Music Group last summer after dropping the tropical house single “What U Like” featuring Lizz Vega under the KRBY Music banner. The sensual indietronica joint penned by KRBY with lyrics from Vega is a hint of what’s to come in the new year from the musician who is working on a full-length album of original material containing some of her earlier songs that are being refreshed for new listeners to discover when released widely for the first time.
