Hollywood, Calif – August 10, 2012 – Lovlee Carroll and Matt O’Neill will headline DOMA Theatre Company’s upcoming production of Xanadu, the
hilarious, roller-skating musical phenomenon about following one's
dreams and believing in magic. An ingenious send-up of the 1980 cult
film starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly, Xanadu features a book by Douglas Carter Beane (The Little Dog Laughed) and a score full of chart-topping tunes (“Magic,” “Suddenly,” “Evil Woman”) by Jeff Lynne (Electric Light Orchestra) and John Farrar. The limited run, September 7 through October 7 at The MET Theatre in Hollywood, is directed by Hallie Baran, with choreography by Angela Todaro and musical direction by Chris Raymond who also conducts the live band.
Matt O’Neill will play struggling artist Sonny Malone who longs to open a roller disco. A recent transplant from Pittsburgh, O’Neill returns to DOMA following a critically acclaimed turn as Cousin Kevin in The Who’s Tommy. He appeared in Coeurage Theater Company’s Balm in Gilead, and on TV in CBS’s CSI: Las Vegas, ABC’s Flash Forward and in a recurring role on BET’s Played by Fame.
Lovlee Carroll stars as Greek muse Clio who, disguised as Australian roller girl Kira, descends from Mount Olympus to help Sonny achieve his dream. Also new to Los Angeles, Lovlee covered Mimi in Rent at New York’s Westchester Broadway Theatre. Some of her other theater credits include The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, The All Night Strut, The Wild Party and Once on This Island. She was a finalist to appear on the ABC show Duets after her video was handpicked by Kelly Clarkson from thousands of submissions.
The cast also includes Taji Coleman (Daddy’s Dyin’, Who’s Got the Will at Theatre/Theater, Their Eyes Were Watching God with Halle Berry) as Euterpe; Alan Lee (Aida and Footloose at the Center for the Performing Arts in Mountain View, CA; Jekyll and Hyde and Les Miserables at Montgomery Theater in San Jose) as Terpsicore; Brittany Rodin (DOMA productions of The Who’s Tommy and Jekyll and Hyde, the Musical) as Calliope; Bradley Sattler (The Who’s Tommy) as Thalia; Veronica Scheyving (DOMA productions of Pippin and Cabaret) as Melpomeme/Medusa; David Michael Treviño (Pawnee Bill in Downey Civic Light Opera’s Annie Get Your Gun, Dr. Jake Kelly in Michael Antin’s Sophia) as Danny; and Lindsay Zana (DOMA's Passion) as Erato. Additional ensemble members include professional roller skater Ryan Allen Carillo and dancers Allyson Blackstone and Ashley Rogers.
